MITCHELL, S.D. — The Mitchell City Council will swear in four council members, elect new leadership and consider several development agreements, property purchases and infrastructure projects during its meeting Monday evening.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Mayor Jordan Hanson will administer the oath of office to council members Tim Goldammer, Shaun Davis, Ken Schlimgen and Jason Greenway before the council elects a president and vice president.
Among items on the consent agenda are appointments to several volunteer boards, approval of liaison assignments, a special event permit for the Palace City Kiwanis Half Marathon scheduled for Oct. 3-4, authorization for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant cost share, the purchase of a wastewater dump truck chassis and multiple construction change orders.
The council also is expected to set July 20 public hearings for special assessment projects involving alley improvements at eight locations throughout the city, along with hearings on alcohol license applications for the State Amateur Baseball Tournament and the transfer of a retail liquor license to Rookies Casino.
Following the consent agenda, the council will consider transferring two alcohol licenses from 777 Mitchell to Jokerz Casino and a special event liquor license for Big Dummy’s during the Shootout at the Lake at Horseman’s Sports Arena on Aug. 7-8.
Other major agenda items include approval of the city’s Property Clean-Up Incentive Program application, two tax increment financing developer agreements for Tax Increment Districts 46 and 47, an agreement for demolition and removal of a water tank, and purchase agreements for properties at 1020 S. Kimball St. and 320 W. 13th Ave. related to city projects.
Council members also will consider dissolving Tax Increment District No. 8 and give final approval to an ordinance rezoning property near the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of Section 21 from High Density Residential to Highway Oriented Business.
The meeting concludes with a presentation on ex parte communications and conflicts of interest before a planned executive session with legal counsel.
