Mitchell City Council’s 4-4 Tie Kills Resolution to Restore Lake Mitchell

The City of Mitchell won’t apply for a $25 million state revolving loan towards the restoration of Lake Mitchell.

The City Council deadlocked at a 4-4 tie on Tuesday night, which in this particular case doesn’t allow Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson to break the tie, thus killing the resolution.

Council president Kevin McCardle led the no votes.

Councilors Dan Allen, Dan Sabers and John Doescher joined McCardle in voting no.

Councilor Jeff Smith voted Yes and said cleaning up Lake Mitchell is important.

Councilors Steve Rice, Marty Barington and Susan Tjarks also supported the resolution.

Prior to the vote. Mayor Everson pointed out that a lot of money has already been spent.

The next Mitchell City Council meeting is in July.
