On Monday, June 19, the Mitchell Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire at 1400 Williams Ave.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire from a building that was several attached garage units. A-Shift was the responding fire crew and Captain Joe Dolezal called for a second alarm, as more fire personnel was needed.
As the initial 911 calls were being made, an ambulance was also requested to the scene.
It was being reported that an individual was found unresponsive outside of the structure fire. This person was treated for injuries and transported to Avera Queen of Peace.
The Mitchell Police Division and the Mitchell Traffic Division also responded to the scene along with Engine 3, Engine 8, Engine 1, Medic 4, and Medic 1.
There were no firefighters injured during this incident, and crews remained on scene until 1:24 am, early on Tuesday morning, June 20.
The scene was then turned over to investigators. At this time the incident is still under investigation.
