Compensation and Incentives:
- Starting wage for uncertified candidates: $27.38 per hour
- Higher wage for currently certified officers, Step “C”

The Patrol Division offers a balanced mix of calls for service and case follow-up, ensuring officers gain well-rounded experience.
Training Program:
- Uncertified applicants must complete a 13-week State Basic Certification Academy in Pierre, SD
- Additional training includes 4 weeks of in-house classroom instruction and 14 weeks of field training with experienced officers
- All training is paid, and uniforms and equipment are provided
- Officers work 10-hour shifts, bid by seniority every 12 months
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide quality customer service and emergency aid
- Patrol business and residential areas
- Respond to information and assistance requests
- Investigate criminal activities
- Engage in solution-oriented activities to enhance community safety
- Enforce laws, ordinances, and regulations
- Provide daily leadership and foster a positive work environment

Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid South Dakota State Driver’s License upon hire
- At least 21 years of age when the eligibility list is certified
- United States citizenship
- Successful completion of the background investigation
