Mitchell Police Remind Residents of Fireworks Rules for Fourth of July

The Mitchell Police Department is reminding residents to celebrate safely and follow city fireworks regulations during the Independence Day holiday.

General fireworks may be used July 3 and July 4 from noon until 11:59 p.m. on property between the shoreline of Lake Mitchell and the nearest public right-of-way. Officials say users must follow all manufacturer instructions and properly extinguish and dispose of fireworks debris.

Police noted that fireworks may be prohibited at the Lake Mitchell Campground under rules established by the Mitchell Park and Recreation Board.

Within Mitchell city limits, ground and handheld fireworks are also permitted July 3 and July 4 from noon until 11:59 p.m. Fireworks may only be used on private property with the property owner’s permission.

The department is encouraging residents to be considerate of their neighbors, put safety first and clean up all fireworks debris after celebrating.
