South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Donald Trump should choose a running mate who will aid in his victory, and she confirmed she has not been formally vetted for the position.
Noem emphasized that Trump will make the final decision and suggested that having a woman on the ticket might be beneficial in swing states. Despite this, she avoided explicitly stating that Trump must select a woman, instead urging him to pick the best candidate.
NBC News reported that Trump’s vice presidential search is focused on three Republican men: Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. JD Vance, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Burgum expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to win regardless of his VP choice.
Noem, previously considered a top contender, faced backlash over an anecdote in her memoir and declined to speculate on its impact on her chances.
She also discussed her strict anti-abortion stance, which contrasts with Trump’s support for exceptions in cases of rape and incest, and echoed Trump’s position on potentially pardoning January 6th rioters.
