A search continues for a child who went missing in the James River near the Tschetter Colony in Hutchinson County on Tuesday night.
A local resident reported seeing a significant law enforcement presence near the river from his nearby farm. The search, which began around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, is taking place just off Highway 44, approximately 18 miles northwest of Freeman.
The operation is being led by the Canada Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART), which specializes in sonar water search and recovery. Assisting in the search are the Game, Fish & Parks department and several county emergency management teams.
Hutchinson County Sheriff Maurice Waltner has not provided details regarding the child’s age or gender.
