Overnight Fight at a Sioux Falls Bars Ends in the Arrest of Two Men

In the early morning hours of Friday, July 6, an incident of aggravated assault took place behind the Top Hat Bar located in downtown Sioux Falls. The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the 500 block of S. 1st Ave.

According to officials, a few individuals were present in the back patio area of the Top Hat Bar when a disagreement arose among three people. This disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, with a tussle ensuing between the involved parties. However, the individuals were initially separated to diffuse the situation.

Unfortunately, the altercation reignited, and two men proceeded to physically assault the victim. They punched, kicked, and choked the victim before eventually leaving the scene.

As a result of the assault, the 35-year-old victim suffered head injuries and lost consciousness. Emergency services were called, and the victim was promptly transported to the hospital. The injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, indicating that the victim’s condition was not critical.

Shortly after the assault, an officer on duty located both suspects walking away from the scene at a short distance. The officer promptly arrested them. The two suspects have been identified as 24-year-old Garret Norlund and 27-year-old Tyler Norlund, both residents of Sioux Falls. They were arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault, indicating that their involvement in the assault was severe and likely to result in serious harm.
