The severe winter weather that hit the Upper Midwest from December 12 to December 25 last winter has been declared an official disaster by President Joe Biden.
The disaster declaration allows the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency to extend emergency credit to producers recovering from the disaster through emergency loans.
Emergency loans can meet various recovery needs, including replacing essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganizing a farming operation, or refinancing certain debts.
FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.
The deadline to apply for emergency loans is October 27.
South Dakota counties eligible include Codington, Clark, Day, Duel, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Brookings, Roberts, and Brown, among many others.
