Proposed Amendment Seeks to Repeal South Dakota’s Medical Marijuana Program

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has released a draft ballot explanation for a proposed amendment aimed at repealing South Dakota’s medical marijuana program.

The program, which was approved by a significant majority of voters in 2020, would face potential repeal if the proposed measure garners enough support, with 17,509 signatures needed to appear on the 2024 ballot.

The Attorney General remains neutral on the proposal, and the draft explanation aims to inform voters about the intended purpose and impact of the measure.

The public has until August 6 to provide feedback on the draft before the final explanation is submitted to the Secretary of State.
