Rapid City Fire Department rescues ducklings from a storm drain

The Rapid City Fire Department in South Dakota conducted a rescue operation to save three ducklings trapped in a storm drain near a highway ramp.

Photos of the rescue were shared on the fire department’s Facebook page, showcasing firefighters descending into the drain and successfully retrieving the ducklings.

The incident was brought to their attention by a local resident who noticed a mother duck repeatedly walking near the drain.

The fire department sent seven personnel to assist in the rescue. The drain was filled with water, runoff, and debris, making it challenging for the rescuers as the ducklings kept swimming into other culverts to hide.
