A correctional officer at the Jameson Annex in Sioux Falls penitentiary was assaulted for the second time on Sunday night around 7:15 pm, leading to hospitalization.
The incident occurred when an inmate being restrained became combative and punched the officer.
The injured officer received treatment at a local hospital and was subsequently released.
Additionally, correctional officers discovered plans for a third assault within the penitentiary, but the Department of Corrections staff intervened and prevented the attack from occurring.
