Shooting in Huron Leaves One Dead, Suspect in Custody

One person is dead following a shooting in Huron, according to Beadle County State’s Attorney Michael Moore. The suspect is in custody, and authorities have stated that there is no longer a threat to the public after a significant law enforcement response at the Clover Leaf Apartments on 10th and Minnesota.

A shelter-in-place order was issued around 10 a.m. but was lifted by 2:30 p.m., with schools resuming normal classes. Roads around 18th and Arizona Ave SW are open for regular school pickup, while the area around 10th and Minnesota Ave SW remains closed.

The Huron Police Department expressed gratitude to the Huron School District, parents, and the community for their cooperation during the incident. Authorities had previously sought the public’s help in locating a 15-year-old, but they have since confirmed that they are no longer looking for the juvenile.

Due to the involvement of a minor, authorities will provide updates while respecting juvenile rights. Residents of Colonial Apartments were allowed to return home, but those along Minnesota Avenue Southwest were instructed not to return yet.

The school district is no longer in lockdown, and normal activities are ongoing inside the buildings, with non-essential activities paused. The incident caused the school district to lock down earlier in the day.
