Sioux Falls City Council Delays Vote on $68 Million Recreation and Aquatics Bond

The Sioux Falls City Council is still deliberating a $68 million bond to upgrade the city’s recreation and aquatics facilities, with the vote delayed yet again.

Originally scheduled for May, the vote has been pushed back multiple times. The bond would fund an indoor recreation center and improvements at Frank Olson Park ($47 million) and an outdoor aquatics center at Kuehn Park ($18 million).

Councilors also plan to allocate $3 million for upgrades to the former Sanford Wellness Center.

The council is working to ensure that the projects stay within budget and meet community needs, while reassuring residents that no new taxes will be raised to fund the bond.

The vote is tentatively scheduled for early January 2025, with the first reading on January 7 and the second on January 14.
