Sioux Falls Counselor Faces Charges for Alleged Inappropriate Relationship with Patient

Roy Conrad, a well-established counselor in Sioux Falls, has been arrested on accusations of engaging in an illicit relationship with a patient.

The 59-year-old is facing six counts of sexual penetration by a psychotherapist and is slated to appear in court in Lincoln County.

Court documents reveal that Conrad convinced the victim that his physical touch would aid her in overcoming past trauma, a claim that allegedly escalated into inappropriate conduct during therapy sessions.

The victim reported that Conrad groomed her physically, progressing from hugs to touching her stomach, and later, her upper chest and breasts.

Conrad cited therapeutic reasons for his actions.

The situation intensified in 2020, with Conrad allegedly telling the victim that he was falling in love with her.

As per court documents, the relationship turned sexual, even taking place outside during walks.

Supporting evidence, including cards and online messages, has been obtained by investigators.

Despite working as a counselor since 1986 and establishing a private practice in 2008, Conrad has no prior criminal record.
