Sioux Falls Man Sentenced to 70 Years for 2022 Assaults

A 32-year-old Sioux Falls man, Michael Pettigrew, was sentenced this week to 70 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for a series of assaults in 2022. The sentence includes 15 years suspended.

Pettigrew stabbed one victim fifteen times near the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center and later stabbed another victim in the neck at the Gas Barrel on Oct. 23, 2022. He also assaulted a third person with a knife at the Gas Barrel.

Pettigrew was found guilty of two counts of Attempted Murder and multiple counts of Aggravated Assault in November 2023. He has six prior felony convictions, and his sentence from this case will begin after serving time for a 2021 arson.

The Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s Office thanked the victims, eyewitnesses, and Sioux Falls Police Department.
