Sioux Falls Seeks New Home for BrockenHouse Taxidermy Collection Amid Arsenic Concerns

The City of Sioux Falls is searching for a new home for the BrockenHouse Taxidermy collection, which has over 150 mounts.

The collection, formerly housed at the Delbridge Museum, was found to contain unsafe levels of arsenic, making it unfit for public display.

Following legislative changes, the city can now donate the collection to nonprofits or other political subdivisions in South Dakota.

Interested organizations must apply by December 12, 2024, with a focus on preservation and educational use.

Restoration costs are estimated to exceed $1 million, though the collection’s rare and historic value remains significant.
