The latest population estimate for Sioux Falls reveals a growth of 5,007 people in 2023, bringing the total to 213,891, nearly a quarter of South Dakota’s population.
While the 2.4% growth rate is slightly below the record-setting pace of previous years, the city’s building permit valuations exceeded $1.1 billion.
This marks the second-highest total, with notable insights including a decline in total construction valuation, a decrease in new single-family housing units, and significant projects such as a downtown apartment complex and a new elementary school.
Despite a slower pace, city leaders remain optimistic about Sioux Falls’ appeal for living, working, and business.
