South Dakota Approves Winter Highway Plan Changes Ahead of Snowfall

The South Dakota Transportation Commission has approved modifications to the state’s winter highway plan in preparation for the upcoming winter season.

After facing challenges in the previous harsh winter, the Department of Transportation has introduced new strategies to address winter weather.

These changes include budget adjustments to reflect a “normal winter,” improvements to navigation systems, the inclusion of road closure information in the statewide 511 system, and the installation of snow fences along highways to prevent snow buildup.

South Dakotans are encouraged to utilize the state’s 511 system for winter travel information.

The department is committed to ensuring preparedness for this year’s winter weather.
