The steering committee appointed by the South Dakota Supreme Court to examine bar admissions in the state has recommended increased efforts to encourage public interest legal careers.
Emphasizing the need for legal professionals in underserved rural areas, the committee proposes a “fast-tracked” pathway for attorneys interested in such work.
The board also suggests that all licensed lawyers in South Dakota should possess a working knowledge of Indian law.
The recommendations will undergo public comment before potential rule changes are officially considered in 2024.
