South Dakota Committee Passes Bills Linking Medical Marijuana Use to Firearms Restrictions

The South Dakota House Judiciary Committee has passed two bills, HB 1024 and HB 1036, sponsored by Republican Rep. Kevin Jensen.

HB 1024 requires medical marijuana card applications to include an acknowledgment that users may be restricted from legally purchasing or owning firearms under federal law.

HB 1036 mandates dispensaries to post notices about this federal restriction.

While the bills have gained support, there is opposition, with concerns about interference in the heavily regulated industry.

The measures now move to the House of Representatives for consideration.
