A team of four South Dakota firefighters made the trip to Cortez, Colorado, last week to help with the wildfire situation in that area.
Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Tye Odden says during this deployment, they’re serving in more of a “back up” role than front-line firefighting.
Odden says a typical deployment is 14 working days, so unless released early, they will return home next week.
