South Dakota murder suspect returned to the state

A suspect accused of the murder of a woman in Dakota Dunes has been extradited to South Dakota and is currently incarcerated.

Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales was officially processed into the county jail by the Union County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, June 8. Presently, he is being held without bail.

Castellanos-Rosales is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, contributing to the neglect of a child, and contributing to the abuse of a child. He stands accused of the homicide of Jordan Beardshear, a 23-year-old woman, which occurred on April 25. The discovery of Beardshear’s body with severe injuries, including stab wounds, was made the following day inside her residence in Dakota Dunes.

In court documents, an investigator from the Division of Criminal Investigation in South Dakota revealed that Castellanos-Rosales’ cell phone records indicated his presence near Beardshear’s apartment between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on April 25. The data also showed that Castellanos-Rosales and Beardshear’s phones were in close proximity to each other at the same location.

Witness testimonies additionally placed Beardshear at her apartment around 8:30 p.m. on April 25, waiting for Castellanos-Rosales to pick up their child. The authorities have confirmed that the victim and the accused shared a child together.

An arrest warrant for Castellanos-Rosales was issued on April 27. He was subsequently apprehended in Mexico on May 12, deported from the country, and placed in a Texas jail. On May 25, during a court appearance in Texas, he expressed his intention to waive resistance to his extradition back to South Dakota.

Castellanos-Rosales was released from the Texas jail on May 31 and has since been transported back to South Dakota over the course of the last week.
