South Dakota Ranks High in Drunk Driving Incidents, Report Finds

A report by Zutobi, an online driver education platform, reveals that South Dakota is among the states with a high prevalence of drunk driving incidents.

South Dakota received a ‘DUI Severity Score’ of 81.2 out of 100, ranking second only to Montana, which scored 83.6.

The top five states in this category, including Wyoming, North Dakota, and Texas, remained consistent from the previous year, although there has been a slight reduction in South Dakota’s DUI severity score.

In 2021, 35% of road fatalities in South Dakota were attributed to drunk driving, with 915 DUI arrests per 100,000 drivers.
