A South Dakota woman, Renee Skoglund, traveled to the Tampa Bay area to engage in an extramarital affair but found herself facing criminal charges.
Skoglund filed a false police report, initially claiming to have been sexually assaulted after concocting a story of car trouble and abduction.
The truth unraveled as investigators discovered surveillance footage of her purchasing the rope she had mentioned.
Eventually, Skoglund admitted to fabricating the entire incident. She was charged with making a false police report and accepted a plea deal.
In response, the judge sentenced her to two years of community control, eight years of probation, and required her to reimburse the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office $17,245.26 for the resources expended on investigating her false claims.
