South Dakota’s Largest Fentanyl Bust Leads to Federal Prison Sentences

The individuals behind South Dakota’s largest fentanyl bust, Berta Gonzales and Edwin Salinas, have been sentenced to federal prison.

Following their arrest in Roberts County last November, authorities discovered over three pounds of fentanyl powder and more than 53,000 pills in their car.

Salinas, found guilty of conspiring to deal fentanyl, received a life sentence, while Gonzales, who made a plea deal, will serve just over three years behind bars.

The duo’s attempt to transport the drugs from California to Minnesota was intercepted by law enforcement.
