Sturgis Man Sentenced in Black Hills Bank Robbery

RAPID CITY, S.D.– A Sturgis man who pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in the Black Hills has been sentenced.

33-year-old Deric Dufek robbed the Great Western Bank in Spearfish on March 14, 2022.

He was wearing a mask at the time and handed a note to a bank teller that read, “give me the money or die.”

Dufek fled after being given a stack of money from the teller but was arrested in Deadwood later that same day.

Dufek was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
