Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2023: Increase in Drug Arrests and Accidents, DUIs Decrease

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, over nine days, concluded with a higher number of drug arrests and accidents compared to the previous year.

A total of 1,479 citations were handed out, marking an increase from the 1,430 issued in the previous year.

Notably, drug-related arrests experienced a significant upswing, with 155 felony arrests compared to 103 in 2022, and 246 misdemeanor arrests compared to 148 in the same period.

While DUI arrests saw a decrease to 120, down from the previous year’s 148, the total number of citations dropped to 4,296, as opposed to 5,288 in 2022.

The rally recorded a total of 127 accidents, out of which 64 were injury accidents and five resulted in fatalities. This surpassed the previous year’s count of 98 accidents and three fatalities.
