20-year-old Chezayia Liggins of San Antonio, Texas, made her initial appearance in Clay County Court on Tuesday following her arrest for first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 47-year-old Christopher Bartling in Vermillion.
During the court appearance, Liggins was informed of her rights and the charges she faces.
She is scheduled to return for arraignment on August 24 before First Circuit Judge Tami Bern.
Liggins, represented by an attorney from the Clay County Public Defender’s Office, remains held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and no other suspects are believed to be involved.
