A tornado ripped through a massive coal mine in northeast Wyoming on Friday, injuring eight people but causing no deaths.
The tornado hit the North Antelope Rochelle Mine in Campbell County around 6 p.m. during a storm complex that also delivered tornadoes to neighboring counties.
The tornado hit during shift change at the mine and flipped over multiple buses that were there to transport workers. Twelve empty train cars were also knocked over.
Six people were transported by ambulance to Gillette, one victim was transported to Douglas, and another refused treatment. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
All workers were accounted for after a search by the mine’s search and rescue team.
The mine was shut down for the night, but operations resumed on Saturday morning.
The tornado was one of several that touched down in Wyoming on Friday. No other injuries or damage were reported.
