Inmates Lester M. Monroe, aged 48, and Kyle L. Jones, aged 30, have been indicted on charges, including Attempted First Degree Murder, following their attack on correctional officers at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2023, when Monroe and Jones assaulted two correctional officers, with one officer initially targeted in Unit D of the Jameson Annex. A second officer was attacked while attempting to assist their colleague.
Both injured officers were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released.
Monroe and Jones are currently held at the State Penitentiary.
