Tyson Foods has announced that it will be laying off 262 employees at its Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, office. The layoffs are expected to take effect on July 31, 2023.
The layoffs are part of a larger restructuring effort by Tyson Foods. In October 2022, the company announced that it would be consolidating its corporate offices and moving them to its headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas. The Dakota Dunes office was one of three offices that would be closed as part of this consolidation.
All employees at the Dakota Dunes office were offered the opportunity to transfer to the Springdale office. Those who chose to stay will be laid off.
Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott said that he believes that the job losses will have a “terrible impact” on the Sioux City community. He said that the layoffs will “hurt the economy and hurt families.”
Tyson Foods officials said that the layoffs are necessary to “enhance team member agility and enable faster decision-making.” They said that the company is committed to helping the affected employees find new jobs.
