Van Fire in Brookings Causes Significant Damage, No Injuries

A fire involving a 15-passenger van in Brookings on Tuesday night caused significant damage to the vehicle but resulted in no injuries.

According to Brookings Fire Chief Pete Bolzer, the incident occurred around 9:11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Elmwood Drive.

Three fire engines and 16 firefighters responded to the scene, successfully containing the blaze, which started in the engine compartment, within 30 minutes.

As of Wednesday morning, the cause of the fire remained unknown. Chief Bolzer advised that the best precaution against such fires is regular seasonal vehicle maintenance.
