The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a semi-tractor-trailer fire southwest of Garretson on Monday night after a tire blowout sparked the fire.
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on SD Highway 11 and 256th Street.
The driver attempted to unhook the trailer but was unable due to thick smoke.
The highway was shut down for several hours for cleanup, with assistance from local fire, ambulance, and law enforcement teams.
No injuries were reported.
