Water in Northern South Dakota Project Brings Collaboration for Missouri River Water Supply

Three water companies in northern South Dakota, including WEB Water, BDM Rural Water System, and the City of Aberdeen, have entered a memorandum of agreement for the “Water in Northern South Dakota” (WINS) project.

The initiative aims to bring Missouri River water to the municipalities involved.

Aberdeen’s Mayor, Travis Schaunaman, expresses excitement about the project, anticipating economic and population growth, along with improved water quality.

The massive $750 million project is set for multiple phases, with the first phase expected to provide water to Aberdeen between 2028 and 2030.

BDM Rural Water System sees the project as an opportunity for growth and a redundant water supply.
