Woman Dies in Shooting Near Kyle; Child Found Safe, Suspects Apprehended

KYLE, S.D. — A woman was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound early Friday near Kyle, and multiple suspects have been taken into custody, according to the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

Law enforcement officers responded to a report of suspicious activity in an area west of Kyle during the early morning hours.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive adult woman inside a vehicle and a young child walking alone nearby. The child was immediately taken to safety and evaluated by medical personnel.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the woman died from a gunshot wound, authorities said. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

A coordinated search involving multiple Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety units and K-9 teams led to the location and detention of the individuals connected to the incident. Authorities said all subjects involved have been apprehended.

Officials said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is continuing in cooperation with the appropriate law enforcement agencies. No additional information has been released.
