Yankton Man Charged with Murder in Second Degree

A Yankton man is facing a charge of murder in the second degree in connection with the death of a woman that occurred late Monday night.

31-year-old Adrian Vaughn Lund is also being charged with aggravated assault/domestic and possession of a controlled substance.

Officers responded to a report of an assault in the 700 block of Walnut Street late Monday night. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim who was seriously injured. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where she later died.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

The type of injury was not listed, but scanner traffic at the time of the incident reported a woman being stabbed.

During the investigation, a person of interest was identified as Lund. Attempts were made to locate him, but he was not found at the time.

The Yankton Police Department issued a press release warning the public not to approach Lund, as he may be armed. The YPD also asked anyone with information about Lund’s whereabouts to contact police.

At about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Police Chief Jason Foote issued a second press release saying that Lund had been found and that he was in custody. Foote said that more information would be released when it became available.

The YPD is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the YPD at 605-668-5210.
