Lisa Merrigan, a registered nurse in Yankton, has been sentenced to two years of probation for tampering with a vial of fentanyl citrate while working at a Chamberlain hospital between June 19, 2021, and September 11, 2021.
Merrigan diluted the fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance, with saline solution, putting surgical patients at risk of inadequate pain management.
Despite her sentencing, the South Dakota Board of Nursing’s website still lists her as an active nurse, raising concerns about regulatory oversight.
