On March 31st, Officers from the Mitchell Police Department responded to a report of several shots fired from a vehicle in the 600 block of East Hanson, Mitchell SD. Upon arrival Officers found several bullet holes in a vehicle parked in a driveway of a residence. Through witness interviews a description of a possible offender vehicle was obtained. This vehicle was located, and a search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle and a residence associated with the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle evidence of the vehicles involvement in the shooting was recovered. During a search of the residence a pistol, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered.
The registered owner of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jade Ott, was interviewed and admitted the pistol found during the search belonged to her and that she was responsible for the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued on 4-1-22 charging Jade Ott with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia SDCL 22-42A-3 (M2), Possession of More than 2 ounces but less than 1/2 pound of Marijuana SDCL 22-42-6 (F6), 3 Counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance SDCL 22-42-5 (F5), Discharge of Firearm at Occupied Structure or Motor Vehicle SDCL 22-14-20 (F3), Commission of a Felony while Armed with Firearm SDCL 22-14-12 (F2), and Intentional Property Damage SDCL 22-34-1 (F5).
