A big move ahead for the Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota

It looks like there’s movement at the Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota. Executive director Coleen Hoffman says it starts next week. “We have it in phases,” said Hoffman. “We’re going to do phase one of moving our basement and our garage and then…moving offices…then moving the visitation and the shelter operations.”

The organization has been serving the Mitchell community for more than 40 years. “Our mission is to provide that safe and empowering environment to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault,” Hoffman said. “It’s through the advocacy programs, it’s through our shelter, it’s through the education and our family support services.”

During the move the Safe Place is asking donors to hold off on physical donations from now until July 31st until the move is complete, and consider gift cards or gas cards instead.

A ribbon-cutting is set for July 10th at the new facility located at 1600 North Kimball.
