A deadly crash prompts changes

A joint funeral was held Thursday for the three boys killed in a crash near Woonsocket last weekend.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Klich, his 14-year-old brother, Dylan Klich, and 14-year-old Kristian Kesary died when their car collided with an SUV and another vehicle last Saturday night on Highway 37.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the teens who were killed were passengers in a car driven by 14-year-old Coen Harvey who survived the crash. All four boys are from Woonsocket.

The patrol says Harvey was trying to turn onto Highway 37 when he struck the SUV, spun around and hit the third vehicle. The driver of the SUV was seriously injured. Two people in the third vehicle were not hurt.

In response Governor Kristi Noem has ordered the intersection of South Dakota Highways 34 and 37 where the crash happened changed to a four-way stop.

Crews are installing stop signs with flashing red lights on Highway 34 both east and westbound at the intersection with Highway 37 the week of Sept. 23. Advanced warning signs, rumble strips, and painted stop bars are also planned to warn drivers of the upcoming stop condition.
