A legendary Mitchell restaurant is coming back to life

A legendary Mitchell restaurant is coming back to life. For decades, Chef Louie’s attracted locals and visitors with memorable steaks, wines and top-notch customer service.

The Fredericksen family operated the restaurant for 20 years before selling it in 2021.

Enter local developer Chuck Mauszycki who reached out to Cary Fredericksen. “He kept calling and I was like, in shock,” said Fredericksen. “I said, we’ve been talking for eight months. I said, if we’re gonna keep talking, I said, I think I better be on board. So anyways, he said, ‘well, I guess I am a good salesman.’ So, hence, that’s where we started and a year and a half later, I guess here we are.”

The new Chef Louie’s site is located on Mitchell’s northside just west of the Highway 37 bypass.

During Wednesday’s ceremonial ground-breaking, Fredericksen announced the new restaurant will hopefully be ready to serve customers late this year or early in 2027.
