A student led fund-raiser aiming to fight food insecurity in Mitchell celebrated its fifteenth year Wednesday.
Mitchell High School Art teacher Marica Shannon says Empty Bowl brings out the best in soup and art. “The art department will have students to volunteer to “throw” bowls on the wheel,” said Shannon. “And then donate one of those bowls to the Empty Bowl project.”
She says Empty Bowl is student-driven. “The students in the culinary making the soups, the students making the pottery, and the students coming and working,” Shannon noted.
And at the end of the day. “There’s value that the student gains from that, and the community gains from valuing our students in this way,” Shannon said.
All proceeds from Empty Bowl benefit the Mitchell Food Pantry.
