What’s become an annual ritual before the hustle and bustle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally hit the road Wednesday morning.
The City of Sturgis hosts the Police Chief’s Ride every year on the Wednesday before the official start of the annual rally.
Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater led a group of more than two dozen motorcycles on a journey through the Northern Hills.
Vandewater says one of the distinctive aspects of the Police Chief’s Ride is its charitable focus. “So this year is our Police Athletic League. Something that’s near and dear to me. I’m one of the founding members of this program,” said Vandewater. “And we have a good program here with our boxing, our mountain biking, and then also probably our big event is our Cops and Kids program for Christmas.”
Vandewater’s always excited to not only help the community but also open up an opportunity for riders to spend time with the chief, officers and fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.
