The summer driving season is in full swing. Shawn Steward says AAA is urging drivers to commit to “100 Days of Safe Driving” between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
“It’s a particularly dangerous time during the summer, you know, in addition to more teens being out driving with unstructured hours,” said Steward. “We’ve also got families hitting the roads for vacations and all kinds of celebrations.”
In South Dakota, from 2015 to 2024, 99 people died in vehicle crashes involving teen drivers, age 15 to 18, with 34 of those fatalities occurring between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Steward says it’s a good time to build safe driving habits by limiting distractions, obeying speed limits, buckling up, and never driving impaired.
