History is in the making in the race for Mayor of Sioux Falls. Just two votes separate leader Christine Erickson from Jamie Smith.
Once the vote is certified, Jamie Smith is expected to request a recount. Minnehaha County auditor Leah Anderson describes what the process will look like. “They’re going to review every ballot,” said Anderson. “They are going to look for the ballot stamp and see if there’s any discrepancies. They’re able to review everything, any ballots that were disqualified by the absentee board.”
“They can review any ballot that was sent to resolution and then they would have the ballots recounted again,” Anderson continued.
This will be the first time in city history a recount has been required for a mayoral election in Sioux Falls.
And…if the recount ends in a tie, state law dictates it will be decided by drawing lots.
