The Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported paraglider accident northeast of Aberdeen Wednesday. According to a news release, sheriff deputies, the Frederick Fire Department, Aberdeen Medics, Careflight and the South Dakota highway patrol responded to the accident.
Aberdeen mayor Travis Schaunaman was identified by the sheriff’s office as one of the people involved in the accident along with his 10-year-old and 8-year-old children. Schaunaman received serious, non-life threatening injuries while his 10-year-old received minor injuries and his 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. in rural Brown County, northwest of Westport and south of Willow Creek.
