Avera Queen of Peace Hospital now offering robot-assisted surgery

Mitchell’s Avera Queen of Peace Hospital recently began offering robot-assisted, laparoscopic surgery.

John Lyle is Director of Perioperative Services. He says it’s a boost to surgeons. “It allows them more precise visualization but also more precise movement of the instruments and also during the surgeries,” he said.

As well benefiting the patient. “Secondly to faster recovery, minimize surgical pain, less pain medication afterwards,” said Lyle. “Just an overall generalized improvement in what we can offer.”

Lyle says the first robotic surgical procedure at Avera Queen of Peace was set to be performed earlier this week.
