College student announces his candidacy for South Dakota Governor

There’s been plenty of rumble from Republicans about who is or could run for governor in 2026, but Democrats have been silent….until Saturday.

Using the State Capitol Rotunda as the backdrop, Robert Arnold announced he’s seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge a Republican next year. A student at Dakota State University in Madison Arnold has spent time in the Capitol as a page and intern. “I learned a lot about the corruption of the previous Governor and the Freedom Caucuses insane dedication to the cultural war that they won’t shut up about,” said Arnold. “Constantly bringing up, bringing to the conversation transgender children, instead of making sure all of our children get enough food to eat every day, and quality education that they can be proud to have.”

Arnold is 19 and claims to be the youngest ever candidate for governor in the country.  He’ll be 21 in time to be elected, which is the minimum age to serve as governor.  Arnold says the state Democratic party has taken a neutral position on his decision to run.
