After five years on the job, Corn Palace Director Doug Greenway is retiring. He came to the decision after discussing the future direction of the Corn Palace with Mayor Jordan Hanson. “I told him you need your leaders, your directors to move in the same direction,” said Greenway. “I don’t think I can go that direction with you when it comes to the Corn Palace.”
Greenway didn’t cite anything in particular leading to his move. “I’ve been proud of what we’ve done at the Corn Palace,” Greenway said. “We’ve learned every time you do an event, we think we get better at it. This is a good time for a transition.”
He says he’s leaving with the winter schedule in place following a successful tourism season. “We cracked the positive side from 2023, which was a record year for visitors,” Greenway said. “And we’re running ahead of that now.”
Greenway is looking forward to devoting more time to his private business and family, especially his grandchildren.
